Ferris Ortho Staff Small

Dr. Tyler Ferris - Doctor

Dr_Tyler_Ferris_2015.jpgDr. Ferris was born in San Antonio and raised in Brady, Texas. After earning his bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University, he gained early acceptance into the number one ranked dental school in the country at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. There he received numerous awards and was valedictorian of his class. He then received his orthodontic specialty training at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas where he was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for Excellence in Orthodontics. In May 2003, Dr. Ferris was awarded the Earl Shepard Award of Distinction for achieving the highest score in the nation on the American Board of Orthodontics Phase II Examination, which tests one’s knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of various orthodontic problems. He has lectured at the Gorman Institute annual meeting and served as an instructor at the Charles H. Tweed Orthodontic Foundation seminar in 2004.

Dr. Ferris has been in practice since 2001. Dr. Ferris and his wife, Sharlynn, reside in Boerne with their daughters Madison and Emmy. His interests outside of orthodontics include time with family, church activities, exercising and being outdoors.


Dr. Megan Hembree - Doctor

Dr_Megan_Hembree_2015.jpg Dr. Megan Hembree, a native of the West Texas town of Muleshoe and began her career in orthodontics working as a chairside assistant throughout college for Dr. Christopher Anderson in Lubbock. Dr. Hembree graduated first in her class at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School, before completing her Orthodontic residency at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. She has been in private practice in San Antonio since September 2007.

Dr. Hembree was the recipient of numerous awards during her educational experience at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, including:

  • The Award for Excellence in Clinical Dentistry (2005)
  • The William S. Kramer Award of Excellence (2005)
  • The M. Franklin Dolwick Research Award (2004)

Dr. Hembree also served on numerous committees and served as a class officer throughout dental school. During her orthodontic training she received her Master’s degree conducting research with temporary anchorage devices used in orthodontics which was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in March 2009.

With an impressive list of educational achievements, Dr. Hembree continues to approach the study and practice of orthodontics with relentless enthusiasm. She truly enjoys what she does!

She met and married her husband, Ben Hembree, a San Antonio native, as a volunteer leader for Young Life while she was in dental school. Together they enjoy spending time with their two children, Chance and Hallie, and three dogs, Boomer, Bailey, and Sealy. Outside the office Dr. Hembree enjoys activities at her church as well as snow skiing, working out, and spending time with her family.

Favorite part of your job? Meeting new people Enjoy seeing patients grow-up with their new, beautiful smile. We have awesome patients and parents, who become friends as well Our staff is like family and I love working with them.
Did you have braces? If so...how old were you? Yes, twice. Please wear your retainers!! 
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Watching my home town Nebraska Football. GO BIG RED!! Spending time with my family. I have a daughter, Kara, who attends Champion High School, and a son, Evan, who attends Boerne Middle South. I have been happily married for 19 years and we enjoy going to the movies, spending time with one another and enjoy running outdoors.

What schooling have you accomplished? Three years of college at Sam Houston State University (maybe I will finish one day)!
Favorite part of your job? The excitement of our patients when they are getting their braces on and when they get them off.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Being with my family, baking and traveling.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I enjoy go to the beach, camping, hiking and anything outdoors. Spending time with family and friends.

Amanda

Position: Treatment Coordinator & Orthodontic Assistant

Why did you choose your profession? This profession chose me! As a patient to the orthodontist who did my braces I grew to love this field. I started to work for him part time during my senior year of high school and have not stopped since then! That was almost 12 years ago. Seeing what we can do and how we can change people’s lives one smile at a time is why I have not left orthodontics. It is a beautiful thing and being a part of it is a true blessing.

What schooling have you accomplished? I have graduated high school and have received my certification in dental assisting.
Favorite part of your job?  The before and after! I love seeing a patient who swore off smiling before braces then who cannot stop smiling after. Making this a fun place to come to is great too! I remember loving all the people who worked for my orthodontist (it's why I never left!) and now being able to do that for our patients makes me really happy.
Did you have braces? If so...how old were you? Yes; 13-16.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love spending time with my growing family! When I'm not busy being a Mama to my 1 year old or spending time with my husband I love to read and take pictures. We are currently expecting our second child which we are all so excited about!

Position:  Orthodontic Assistant

Melf.JPGWhy did you choose your profession?  I chose this profession to be able to see the difference a beautiful smile can make in a person’s life and being a part of the process is very rewarding. A smile can build a person’s self-esteem and self-confidence to a whole new level.
When did you start working for Ferris Orthodontics?  October 2014
What schooling have you accomplished? I graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1997 with honors and attended San Antonio College from 1997-2000.
Favorite part of your job? Favorite part of my job is seeing a person’s reaction to their new beautiful smile. I also enjoy being a huge part of the transformation.
Did you have braces? If so...how old were you? Yes, at the age of 28.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I enjoy spending time with my goofy husband Ben and our kids Gabe(20), Marisa(15), and Chloe(13). We love movie/game nights with our extended family, gym time, and the outdoors. Of course, there is our crazy fur baby, a Boston Terrier named Harley, who is constantly making us laugh.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I have been blessed to be married to an amazing man for 14 years. We have three children: Jericka, Janelle and Elijah, and a grandson, Brandon. We also have a four legged princess named, Nena. I enjoy spending quality time with my loved ones, and I thank God for all my blessings, big and small. I know the best thing in life is to let go and let God take care of it all.

What schooling have you accomplished? SVHS class of 2000, St. Phillips 2001, SAC 2002.
Favorite part of your job? I really enjoy helping people and love to see how they change through the process of braces. I also love my work family; they are amazing and fun to work with. The doctors, patients and coworkers make it a great place to be!
Did you have braces? If so...how old were you? Yes I have had them twice. Once at 14 and the second time as adult at 30 due to not wearing my retainers.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I enjoy being with my family. I love to spend time with my 3 kids and wonderful hubby. We enjoy boating, swimming, riding ATVs, and pretty much anything outside.
Your favorite Day is spent.... Hanging out with my family usually tubing, swimming, boating on the lake.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Spending time with family and enjoying my grandson while he lives with me while daddy is deployed. Seeing my daughter when she comes home from college (Longhorns).

Sara.jpgWhy did you choose your profession? My previous employer hired me as a treatment coordinator, and decided to one day show me the process of bonding braces. I was immediately intrigued, and wanted to learn more.

What schooling have you accomplished? Grace King High in Metairie, LA - Dental Assisting
Favorite part of your job? I absolutely love the reaction of our patients when they see their final result smile.
Did you have braces? Yes, I was 23.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love venturing out in my new city by going out to eat at local restaurants, being a newbie at hiking and camping, and enjoying as many state parks with my boyfriend and new furry baby Arya. Traveling back home to New Orleans is always on my list, especially during crawfish season while i patiently wait for football season to start, Who Dat!
Your favorite Day is spent.... Relaxing at Destin Beach, Florida with family and friends.

Why did you choose your profession? Having braces in High School sparked my interest and is what led me to what I do today.

What schooling have you accomplished? Graduate of Tivy High School. Completed the Dental Assistant Program at Concorde Career College.
Favorite part of your job? Meeting new people everyday, and being able to help someone improve their smile.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, along with my pets Doug and Lucy.

LisaM.jpgWhy did you choose your profession? I won 1st place in the 2nd grade for my dental poster and started loving the dental field, even though I was a terrible patient. Later, I started having a lot of dental & orthodontic treatment done and lost my fear of the dentist. I wanted to work with people to help them get over their fear of the dentist.

What schooling have you accomplished? I graduated from Judson High School, and San Antonio College of Medical & Dental Assisting.
Favorite part of your job? Greeting patients, and meeting new patients all the time. Working with a great group of people who loves their job, including me!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love going to antique shops, yard sales, and resale shops. I also like working with my plants and watching movies.

What schooling have you accomplished? I have a BS in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University.
Favorite part of your job? I love the awesome people I work with; they are my second family!!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Spending time with family and friends and quilting.

When did you start working for Ferris Orthodontics?  Spring 2010
What schooling have you accomplished?  Graduate of Smithson Valley High School! Go Rangers! Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1998! Whoop!
Favorite part of your job?  I can't list them all....but first...working with our awesome patients and families. Working with a staff that is like a second family and working with our local community and schools!
Did you have braces? If so...how old were you?  Yes! I was in 8th & 9th grades!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love spending my free time with my family and friends, working out and participating in sports, watching my kids sporting events, being outdoors, camping, gardening, etc...
Your favorite Day is spent....  Traveling with my husband and three girls!

Favorite part of your job? I enjoy working with such an amazing group of people. But I mostly love that the smiles, conversations and friendships we share here at work carry over to connect with our patients. I feel like such a bigger part of the community working here. The many faces and people that we get to connect with is a rare thing to find in a workplace. Our patients are our friends as well, and I love that!!
Did you have braces? If so...how old were you? I had braces from the age of 34 to 36.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I ran my first half marathon in 2011 and was hooked after that. I have run 3 marathons and many other shorter distant races since then. I also love hiking, biking, camping, and really anything to do in the great outdoors!
Your favorite Day is spent.... My favorite days are spent with my son, Ashton, doing something active like hiking or biking.
